The Icelandic Swimming Association acknowledges Þingvallasund, maintains records of achievement and issues certificates of achievement upon completion of the swim event. The certificate of achievement shall state the route of the swim, the timing of the swim and the swimmer's swimwear. If a swimmer has not used any ointment and has used only approved swimwear in accordance with the rules of the FINA , then these facts shall be stated on the certificates of achievement as per the swimmer's statement. The SSI (ISA) shall keep a record of the names of individuals who have received a certificate of achievement. Þingvallasund complies with the rules and regulations issued by the SSI for open water swimming.

Extensive on-site security and safety management is in the hands of the ICE-SAR and their local representative, the Eyrarbakki Search and Rescue Team, which shall provide 8 rescue boats, each with a crew of three SAR personnel. A SAR vehicle shall be on standby, serving as an ambulance with a paramedic, a SAR team member and a driver.
